Meet the Team: Courtney & Nina

Hi there & Welcome to Corner Market Club!

6 months young ✨ We'd thought we'd introduce ourselves:

Courtney, the Founder
A flavour obsessed, colour coordinating, culture junkie who adores her family & friends. Courtney lives for good conversations and tons of laughter, even better when shared with food & wine
Tell us more about yourself Court?
I love organizing parties and curating gifts for special occasions. Any given opportunity to create something beautiful is what gets me out of bed in the morning. In my downtime I’m either down a Pinterest rabbit hole, binging on podcasts or enjoying some exercise in the beautiful outdoors of the KZN Midlands!
At the beginning of 2020, Courtney returned to her childhood neighborhood in Pietermaritzburg, to join my parents in their retail food business. After 6 years of studying in Cape Town & 3 years working in Law in Johannesburg, her time spent behind a corporate desk was short lived as she was in pursuit of something that could scratch that nagging creative itch.
Having always dabbled in entrepreneurial ventures from a young age (some fruitful & some not) she was confident that her heart lay in the world of business!
Shortly after joining the family business, Courtney started to notice an increasing demand for food products that their customers couldn’t ordinarily find in the area. 
They saw a “revolution” in the way in which people were consuming. This was compounded by COVID-19 with people spending more time at home, eating and experimenting with recipes. Ingredients and flavours came sharply into focus. We were no longer eating for the sake of it but rather really for enjoyment. Cue the demand for both imported & local speciality products!
I strongly believe that just because we may live in a small town, we should not be restricted by our geographical location in terms of the products we consume. I want to ensure every South African foodie (no matter where they live) has access to these beautiful brands. And so, Corner Market Club was born as a way to celebrate & connect these unique or speciality suppliers to craving customers

Nina, Our Operations Manager

Nina has been a part of the team since February, 2020. Luckily she loves organising and colour coordinating almost as much as Courtney! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Thanks to the pandemic, she has also found herself back in her childhood home after studying in Cape Town for 4 years.⠀

Nina is passionate about food - when she's not cooking, she's baking, or thinking about what to cook next! Actually she’s a bit of a hobbyist. From crochet to film photography to coding, she’s taught herself it all.

She loves all things curated and beautiful but with the Climate Crisis in the back of her mind at all times, she strives to make everyday things more sustainable. Whether that be creating as little waste as possible or finding treasures in second hand stores - every little bit helps!

Nina is so stoked to be a part of Corner Market Club so she can gush about all the unique foodie items she finds to more people than just her friends.
