Funky Ouma is the result of a Anneke the funky ouma of 10 grandchildren, that has been playing around with food and spices all her life, but only decided at 67 to start her own brand together with her youngest daughter Johannita Eksteen. The idea was born many years ago when Anneke’s husband was ill with cancer, and they removed all preservatives and colourants from his diet. They played around with salt and natural flavours and saw a gap in the market for healthy cooking and braai-salt mixtures. Since then, they have grown to employ 12 local ladies and 2 gents in their factory and sales team! The factory and herb garden and lemon orchard is on the farm where they live, just outside Paarl, Western Cape. This allows Johannita to be a mother, involve the kids and be there when they need her, and allowed Ouma to be Ouma and have fun with the kids in between work. Sadly, Ouma Anneke passed away in 2021 but her legacy lives on through Funky Ouma.
